Alice Lara is originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She graduated from New
Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s of Social
Work degree. She lived in El Paso, Texas where she polished her conversational Spanish
skills and moved to Phoenix,
Arizona with her husband Mark
Baker in December of 1985. Alice and Mark live in the South Mountain
area with their English pointer mix, Georgina.
Alice has five brothers and sisters, twelve nephews and nieces,
nine great nephews and nieces and two great great nephews, soon to be three.
Alice and Mark sponsor a foster child, Levy Perriera who lives in Brazil. Alice is known as her
family reunion coordinator. Last year she hosted one in Phoenix, a good central point of her
neighboring state family members.
Alice’s civic activities include Arizona Coalition against
Domestic Violence, Arizona Latino Media Association, Arizona Latino Republican
Association and Central Republican Women’s club. She is a precinct
committeeman for Arizona
legislative District 16. Alice
is a master networker and self professed blabbermouth. Last year she was
the second highest recruiter in Arizona
for her Republican women’s club.
She and her husband Mark married in 1984.
Mark was born in Albuquerque, New
Mexico and grew up in El
Paso, Texas. Alice will tell
you Mark is sometimes more hispanical than her as he could consume hotter salsa
and grew up in barrios closer to the Mexican border. Mark is a
systems programmer for Peoria
Unified School
district. He is a hard core political junkie,
enjoys the history of our founding fathers and when time allows range shooting.
Alice started working with professional trainer, Allison Havir
in the summer of 2007, enjoying the increased energy benefits and a new
interest in weight lifting. She is a political junkie and enjoys talk
radio host Michael Medved and tv/talk show host Glenn Beck. She
de-stresses walking her dog Georgina and
traveling with her husband Mark.
Alice is a lifelong Roman Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s
basilica. When she lived in the west valley, she was a member of St.
Helen’s Catholic Church and sang in the choir under the direction of Jay
Soto.
Alice settled into banking jobs. When affected by the 80s
banking downturn, she became a Mary Kay consultant and in fact still does it on
a small scale today. She also worked as a placement specialist involving
the medical field. Alice was a
building secretary for Osborn
Middle school, the
closest profession to her first love of social work. Unfortunately when
salaries froze she was reminded of the primary reason she had not pursued her
degree field so she joined US Bancorp in the mortgage business in loan
processing.
Alice worked as a talk show producer for KFYI and also did voice
work. She has been a voiceover talent for the last 15 years and was a
volunteer for Sun Sounds radio for thirteen years, hosting Sun Talk and the
reader of “Touching the Future”. She was a co-host for “Vecinos” a
Saturday morning talk show that ran on KFNX. She joined the political
consulting firm of Copper State Consulting Group in October of 1999 as
Executive Assistant to Stan Barnes. Alice
describes herself as Copper
State’s Jane Hathaway
from the old “Beverly Hillbillies” tv show as she is a master
multi-tasker.
